چکیده

Identification of IL-6 and its pleiotropic functions IL-6 was originally identified as an antigen-nonspecific Bcell differentiation factor in the culture supernatants of mitogenor antigen-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells that induced B cells to produce immunoglobulins [1,2], and was named B-cell stimulatory factor 2 (BSF-2). The cDNA encoding human BSF-2 was cloned in 1986 [3]. Simultaneously, IFN-β2 [4,5] and a 26-kDa protein [6] in fibroblasts were independently cloned by different groups and found to be identical to BSF-2. Later, a hybridoma/plasmacytoma growth factor [7–10] and a hepatocyte-stimulating factor [11–13] were also proven to be the same molecule as BSF-2. Although various names have been used for this molecule because of its multiple biological activities, it is now known as IL-6.

Investigation of TNF-α and IL-6 Levels in the Sera of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer Patients

Background: TNF-α and IL-6 are both pleiotropic cytokines playing major roles in cancer-associated cytokine networks. They have previously been investigated for their function in skin malignancies, mostly melanomas, and studies on NMSC patients are relatively fewer. In this study, we aimed to investigate the associations of serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α with NMSCs and its clinicopathological f...

Interleukin-6: A Cytokine with a Pleiotropic Role in the Neuroimmunoendocrine Network

Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a typical pleiotropic cytokine that modulates a variety of physiological events in vertebrates, including cell proliferation, differentiation, survival, and apoptosis, among other functions. IL-6 plays roles in the immune, the endocrine, the nervous, and the hematopoietic systems, in bone metabolism, regulation of blood pressure and inflammation. IL-6 exerts its effects ...

Interleukin-6 and rheumatic diseases

IL-6 is a pleiotropic cytokine involved in both the initiation and the maintenance of the inflammatory and immunologic responses in certain autoimmune diseases. Blocking of these two complementary functions of IL-6 may confer additive, or even unique, benefits to the patient. The levels of both IL-6 and its soluble receptor (sIL-6Ralpha) are elevated to various degrees in many rheumatic disease...

The Serum IL-6 Profile and Treg/Th17 Peripheral Cell Populations in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes

IL-6 is a pleiotropic cytokine involved in the regulation of the immune response, inflammation, and hematopoeisis. Its elevated levels are found in a range of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases. IL-6 is also involved in regulation of the balance between two T cell subsets: Tregs and Th17, which have contradictory functions in the control of inflammation. The present study provides a q...

Detection of Interleukin-19 mRNA in C57BL/6 Mice Astroglial Cells and Brain Cortex

Introduction: Astrocytes are the most abundant glial cell type. In addition to their neurological roles, astrocytes also have immune functions. They have been involved in antigen presentation in the central nervous system (CNS). Activated astrocytes express adhesion molecules, chemokines and release several inflammatory mediators, pro-inflammatory cytokines, neurotrophic and neuroprotective fac...
